OMNIVISION has introduced the OAX7700, a low power companion processor for parking surveillance systems built around exterior vehicle cameras.
The device integrates a neural processing unit for functions including human presence detection, object classification and distance estimation. In continuous monitoring mode, it is designed to remain at low power until a detected event causes the camera system to switch to normal operation.
OMNIVISION says the processor can retain five to ten seconds of video recorded before a trigger. A vehicle’s electronic control unit can then analyse the event, reject false alarms and activate an alert when required.
The company claims systems using the OAX7700 can consume 97 per cent less power than existing market alternatives. Customers can develop their own artificial intelligence algorithms for the processor and distribute later updates over the air.
The OAX7700 combines stacked PSRAM and flash memory in a 60 pin BGA package measuring 5.5 mm by 3.5 mm. Samples are available now, with volume production scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
