Rohde & Schwarz plans to demonstrate E-band satellite testing with 8 GHz-wide signals at Space Tech Expo Europe in Bremen on 17–19 November. The setup combines its SFI100A wideband intermediate-frequency generator, FE110ST/SR frontends and FSWX analyser, targeting component and payload validation for broadband satellite systems.[1]
Generating a wide signal at an intermediate frequency allows an external frontend to translate it into the much higher radio-frequency band needed for the measurement. The SFI100A supports IF outputs from 11 GHz to 21 GHz and up to 10 GHz RF modulation bandwidth, with the connected frontend extending the usable carrier frequency. The planned 8 GHz demonstration is one configuration within those wider instrument capabilities.[2]
The generator also incorporates the connected frontend’s characteristics into its calibration, establishing the signal at the measurement plane rather than only at the generator output. Rohde & Schwarz says the arrangement can include cables and compatible accessories, which is relevant when the conversion hardware and connections themselves affect the signal delivered to the component being tested.[2]
A separate exhibit will combine the SMW200A vector signal generator and FSW signal and spectrum analyser with Ansys Systems Tool Kit to emulate a dynamic low Earth orbit channel. As a satellite moves relative to a ground terminal, its signal changes in frequency through Doppler shift and in received strength through changing path loss. The planned setup varies those conditions in real time, allowing receiver behaviour to be examined before deployment.[1][3]
A broad, stable laboratory signal can expose a component’s behaviour across the occupied bandwidth, while an emulated orbit adds changing propagation conditions over time. The two setups therefore address both the signal path’s wideband behaviour and a receiver’s response as the link changes during a satellite pass.[2][3]
The company will exhibit at the bavAIRia joint stand in Hall 5, stand H47. Its announcement also covers handheld instruments for ground-station installation and continuous link monitoring, extending the programme from development measurements to maintaining deployed RF connections.[1]
