Vishay Intertechnology has introduced four thick film resistor sample kits under its Sfernice range, intended to simplify component selection and validation for high-power surface-mount designs and reduce time to market.
Kit contents and ratings
Each kit provides Automotive Grade, surface-mount devices in TO-252 (DPAK) and TO-263 (D²PAK) packages, with an optional PCB test board for electrical and thermal evaluation. Vishay says all resistors are AEC-Q200 qualified.
- D2TO20 kit: 1Ω to 47 kΩ, 20 W at 25°C, TO-263 (D²PAK)
- D2TO35 kit: 35 W at 25°C, TO-263 (D²PAK)
- DTO35 kit: 35 W at 25°C, TO-252 (DPAK)
- DTO35/D2TO35 combined kit: 35 W at 25°C, TO-252 and TO-263 packages
According to Vishay, the resistance range covers selected E-series values, reducing the need for additional sample orders compared with single-value or single-package kits typically used for evaluation.
Packaging and construction
Devices are supplied on cardboard tape strips holding four resistors each, sorted in ascending resistance order and labelled, which Vishay says reduces lab setup time when used with the optional test boards.
Vishay states the resistors feature non-inductive construction and electrical isolation between the resistor element and the metal tab, supporting stable high-frequency performance and enhanced safety. The company also cites reflow resistance up to 270°C for 10 seconds as compatible with standard surface-mount assembly processes.
Samples of the kits are available now, with lead times of four weeks, according to Vishay.
