Vishay adds 12 A standard rectifiers in low-profile Power DFN package

Vishay has introduced four surface-mount rectifier series rated 5 A to 12 A in a new 0.88 mm DFN6546A package with wettable flanks, some in AEC-Q101 qualified versions.

Vishay Intertechnology has launched four new series of surface-mount standard rectifiers in its Power DFN family, aimed at power line polarity protection and rail-to-rail protection in commercial, industrial and automotive designs.

The SE50N6x, SE80N6x, SE100N6x and SE120N6x devices are rated 5 A, 8 A, 10 A and 12 A respectively, each offered with reverse voltages of 200 V, 400 V and 600 V, and each available in AEC-Q101 qualified versions.

Package and thermal performance

All four series use the new DFN6546A package, which Vishay describes as the industry's first such device in this low-profile format with wettable flanks. The package measures 6.5 mm by 4.6 mm with a typical height of 0.88 mm, and its higher copper content and larger chip sizes are said by Vishay to improve thermal performance and forward surge current capability.

Compared with solutions in the same-footprint SMPC (TO-277A) package, Vishay states the new devices deliver a 10% lower profile, 20% higher current ratings and 82% higher forward surge capability, figures attributed to the company.

Electrical characteristics and qualification

Key parameters across the range include:

  • Typical reverse leakage current below 0.1 μA
  • Forward voltage drop as low as 0.77 V (SE50N6x at rated current)
  • Operating junction temperature range of -55°C to +175°C
  • ESD capability per IEC 61000-4-2, air discharge mode

The wettable flanks support automatic optical inspection, which Vishay says removes the need for X-ray inspection. The devices carry a moisture sensitivity level of 1 per J-STD-020, with an LF maximum peak of 260°C, and are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.

Samples and production quantities are available now, with lead times of eight weeks, according to Vishay.
