VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC), the joint venture set up by Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS) and NXP Semiconductors in September 2024, has marked the grand opening of its first 300mm fab in Tampines, Singapore, following 22 months of construction.

The facility has entered risk production, with volume manufacturing scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. VSMC said the fab has processed its first sample lot with yields above 99%, though this figure is a company-reported result rather than independently verified data.

Process coverage and target markets

The fab is designed to support specialty process nodes from 130nm to 40nm, covering mixed-signal, power management, analog and interposer technologies. VSMC named the intended end markets as:

  • High-performance computing (HPC)
  • Mobile
  • Automotive
  • Industrial
  • Consumer

VSMC described the plant as using a fully automated smart manufacturing model incorporating artificial intelligence and digital management tools, according to the company.

Capacity ramp and supply chain positioning

VSMC said monthly capacity is expected to reach approximately 44,000 12-inch wafers by 2029 at full build-out, alongside roughly 1,600 jobs. NXP president and CEO Rafael Sotomayor said the venture strengthens the company's manufacturing base and supports its hybrid manufacturing strategy, adding that NXP's planned capacity at VSMC remains unchanged.

VIS and VSMC chairman Leuh Fang said the opening reflects VIS's commitment to expanding in Singapore and meeting customer demand for specialty IC manufacturing. The fab was built to LEED and Singapore's Green Mark standards, with VSMC citing efforts in carbon abatement, energy efficiency and water recycling.

For design engineers and buyers tracking specialty analog, power and interposer supply, the fab represents a new source entering risk production now, with volume output not expected before the first quarter of 2027.
