TDK adds mirror-contact feedback to 1,000 V and 1,500 V DC contactors

The HVC28 and HVC29 families cover 300–600 A continuous ratings, with different short-circuit withstand capabilities.

TDK has introduced two families of gas-filled DC contactors with an optional mechanically linked auxiliary contact for monitoring the state of the main contacts. The HVC28 operates at up to 1,000 V DC and the HVC29 at up to 1,500 V DC; both offer 300 A, 400 A, 500 A and 600 A continuous-current versions.

The normally closed mirror contact is specified against IEC 60947-4-1. Because it follows the main contact mechanically, it provides feedback beyond the electrical command sent to the coil. That lets a control system compare the requested switching state with the state indicated by the auxiliary circuit.

Those withstand figures describe brief exposure to fault current, rather than the current the contactor can interrupt. For the HVC28, TDK separately specifies one maximum cut-off operation at 1,600 A and 1,000 V under stated resistive-load conditions. It is a single operation, not a repetitive switching rating.

Both families use a ceramic arc chamber and polarity-free main terminals, allowing bidirectional current flow. They have 12 V or 24 V single-coil options and an integrated low-voltage connector.

TDK positions the HVC28 for vehicle battery disconnects and charging equipment, with the HVC29 extending to storage and industrial DC distribution, including proposed 800 V DC data-centre architectures.
