Infineon has officially opened a new backend manufacturing site in Samut Prakan, near Bangkok, adding assembly and test capacity to its global production network. The company describes the greenfield facility as built for phased expansion, with the potential to scale up to five modules over time.
The site currently employs around 350 people, a figure Infineon expects to grow to approximately 1,000 as the first building, Module A, ramps up. Infineon states the facility covers the full range of backend processes, including cleanroom, assembly and test capabilities alongside wafer test, supported by a high degree of automation.
Role within Infineon's manufacturing network
Infineon positions Bangkok as a strategic complement to its ongoing frontend manufacturing expansion, intended to diversify its backend footprint across regions. The company says the location gives it access to Southeast Asian logistics and an established semiconductor supply ecosystem in Thailand.
According to Infineon, the facility is aimed at supporting increasingly complex, high-value semiconductor solutions for automotive, industrial and energy infrastructure applications, linked to electrification, energy efficiency and digitalisation. These are characterised as company objectives rather than independently verified production outcomes at this stage.
Sustainability features
Infineon states the site runs on 100 percent green electricity, incorporates water recycling and rainwater collection, and includes on-site solar generation. The company attributes these measures to its stated goal of reducing carbon footprint across its value chain.
No specific timeline for reaching full five-module capacity or for Module A's production ramp has been disclosed.
