Telonic introduces Microtest safety testers with up to 72-channel expansion

Telonic Instruments has introduced the Microtest 7640 and 7641 electrical safety testers, offering single-channel and expandable multi-channel configurations.
The UK distributor announced the instruments on 8 October. Both combine AC withstand, DC withstand and insulation-resistance testing, with maximum outputs of 5kV AC and 6kV DC and an insulation-resistance measurement range extending to 100GΩ.
The 7640 provides one test channel. The 7641 has eight channels in its standalone configuration and can be expanded to as many as 72 using compatible 7508A or 7516A scanner boxes.
Microtest specifies maximum rated currents of 30mA for AC withstand testing and 10mA for DC withstand testing. Programmable voltage ramp, dwell and fall times run from 0.1 to 99.9 seconds.
Both instruments include adjustable arc detection, true-RMS measurement and a safety interlock. Arc detection can be disabled or set to one of nine sensitivity levels. The manufacturer lists applications including transformers, motors, cables and high-voltage assemblies.
For automated testing, the instruments provide RS-232, USB Host, USB Device and external I/O connections, together with remote test and abort control. Microtest also describes PC software support for programming and recording test results, with barcode integration available for production traceability.
The instruments use a 4.3-inch colour display. Internal storage accommodates 64 programme sets on the 7640 and 32 on the 7641.
