TDK expands compact PoC inductors for automotive camera systems

TDK has added 1.2µH parts to its MLJ1608-G range, targeting compact power-over-coax filters for automotive camera links up to 2GHz.

TDK has expanded its MLJ1608-G multilayer inductor series with a 1.2µH component for power-over-coax circuits used in automotive camera systems.

The new MLJ1608WGC1R2MTD25 measures 1.6mm by 0.8mm by 0.8mm. TDK says it maintains high impedance from 300MHz to 2GHz and provides between 1.7 and two times the impedance of conventional components across the 100MHz to 700MHz range.

Power-over-coax allows a camera module and electronic control unit to exchange high-speed data while power is supplied over the same cable. The approach reduces connectors and wiring, but the power and data paths must be separated at each end without adding excessive loss or allowing switching noise to enter the video channel.

A practical filter normally uses several inductors selected to cover different parts of the required frequency range. The higher inductance of the new part, compared with 0.56µH for the existing MLJ1608-G devices, extends the available impedance while retaining the same 1608 footprint.

TDK lists typical DC resistance of 0.81Ω and a maximum of 1.20Ω. Rated current is 350mA at 105°C and 200mA at 125°C. The company says the component is AEC-Q200 compliant.

Mass production began in October 2026. TDK is continuing to develop multilayer, wire-wound and thin-film inductors for automotive PoC filter networks.
