TDK adds redundant motor-position sensing in a single 4mm package

The HAR 3025 places two independent sensing dies in a 4 × 4 mm package, with diagnostics and stray-field compensation for safety-critical motor control.

TDK’s Micronas HAR 3025 combines two independent position-sensing dies in a 4 × 4 mm QFN24 package for automotive and industrial motor control.

The stacked dies share the same centre of magnetic sensitivity, producing synchronous signals that an electronic control unit can compare for plausibility. Each die contains six Hall plates and signal processing to compensate for external magnetic fields, with TDK specifying stray-field robustness against ISO 11452-8:2015.

TDK describes the device as ASIL D-ready, developed as a Safety Element out of Context under ISO 26262:2018. Its target applications include steer-by-wire actuators, brake-by-wire motors, electric power steering and traction-motor commutation.

Diagnostics monitor supply voltage, clock, temperature, signal processing and configuration memory. A detected fault places the affected die’s outputs in a high-impedance state, allowing external resistors to make the fault visible to the controller.

Redundant analogue sine/cosine outputs support external angle calculation. Four selectable bandwidths span 4.6–70.5 kHz, while the supply range is 3–5.5 V.

Samples are available. Production is planned for the first half of 2027.
