Rohde & Schwarz extends RF power-transfer standards to 170GHz

The passive thermoelectric NTS family provides an alternative to obsolete thermistor mounts, with coaxial and D-band waveguide models.

Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the R&S NTS family of passive thermoelectric RF power-transfer standards for metrology institutes, calibration laboratories and industrial measurement.

The range includes coaxial models covering DC to 67 GHz and a waveguide model reaching 170 GHz through a WR 6.5 connection.

The sensors are designed to replace thermistor-mount standards whose manufacture and development have ended. Their compact format fits existing microcalorimeter arrangements and connects to traceably calibrated DC nanovoltmeters without an additional base unit.

The detector uses separate, closely matched RF and DC heaters for RF-DC power substitution. A four-wire DC heater connection and low-impedance DC lines support precision measurements, while an integrated temperature sensor provides thermal compensation.

Maximum input power is +20 dBm. Optional electronic identification supports automated calibration workflows.

The sensors can serve as primary standards within microcalorimeters or as transfer standards between laboratories. Special open, short and mismatched variants are available for determining microcalorimeter correction factors.
