Microchip Technology has completed its acquisition of Hailo, a supplier of edge AI accelerators, vision processors, robotics processors and AI software technologies. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and Microchip says it is not expected to have a material impact on the company's financial results.

Vision and AI processing added to embedded lineup

According to Microchip, Hailo's products add AI acceleration and vision processing capability supporting computer vision, transformer-based models, multimodal workloads and video analytics. Microchip states the combined portfolio is intended to help customers develop systems ranging from low-power smart cameras through to robotics, autonomous machines and what it terms Physical AI platforms.

Microchip chief executive Steve Sanghi said AI is becoming a foundational capability across embedded systems, including industrial automation, robotics, intelligent transportation and smart infrastructure, and that Hailo strengthens the company's ability to deliver production-ready platforms. Mark Reiten, senior corporate vice president of Microchip's Intelligent Compute Business Unit, said the deal combines Hailo's edge AI and vision expertise with Microchip's embedded processing, FPGA, connectivity, security, analog and power offerings.

Continuity for existing Hailo customers

Microchip says it plans to continue supporting Hailo's existing product portfolio, software environment and customer engagements. Hailo founder and chief executive Orr Danon said joining Microchip gives access to its global sales organisation and technical support resources.

Microchip describes Hailo's ecosystem as including more than 100 customers and a developer community exceeding 10,000 users, figures attributed to the company rather than independently verified. The release does not disclose transaction value or specify product roadmaps beyond continued support of existing Hailo offerings.
