Himax opens DigiKey pre-orders for a 13 mm WiseGuard vision module

Himax has opened DigiKey pre-orders for its WiseGuard smart sensor evaluation kit, with module shipments expected by the middle of November. The 13 mm by 11 mm assembly combines a vision sensor, a low power sensor NPU, a trained human detection model and an image compression engine for continuous human and object sensing.[1]
Classification runs locally, producing event metadata without continuously streaming images to a host or cloud service. When visual verification is needed, the compression engine can crop an image to the relevant area and reduce the data sent over the connection. Himax is targeting security, remote monitoring, occupancy sensing and smart buildings.[1]
The company claims more than five years of operation from a CR123 battery and human detection accuracy up to 98%, without publishing the test conditions. Event frequency and image transmission will affect the power budget, while range, lighting, field of view and classification thresholds affect detection results. The quoted figures therefore need those conditions before they can be applied to a particular installation.[1]
WiseGuard also supports multiple object classes, image masking and encryption. Arm TrustZone provides isolation, with a physically unclonable function used for device authentication. Processing images locally can keep routine visual data off the network, while cropped event images provide additional information for remote verification.[1]
