Excelitas puts motion and stationary-presence sensing behind one integrated lens

Excelitas has introduced the PYT 1197L / 7901 Integrated Motion Presence Multi detector, combining pyroelectric and thermopile sensing with an integrated multi-zone lens in a TO-5 housing. The two sensing elements allow it to detect both movement and people who remain still without transmitting an RF signal. [1]
The lens provides eight movement-detection zones around a central presence-detection zone. Excelitas specifies approximate ranges of 10 m for motion, 7 m for approach and 5 m for presence, with the narrower central channel covering stationary occupants. [2]
The pyroelectric channel has a 120° × 60° field of view and responds to changes in received infrared radiation as a person moves. The thermopile covers 40° × 40° and can produce a measurable signal without the target moving between zones, allowing it to detect someone who remains still within that central field. Both field-of-view specifications are given at the 25% sensitivity level. [2][3]
The supply range is 2.4–3.6 V, with a typical current of 13.5 µA and a maximum of 17.5 µA specified at 3.3 V with no load. The datasheet gives an ambient test temperature of 25 ± 3°C unless otherwise stated. Both sensing paths provide digitised data and the package is 6.8 mm high. [3]
Excelitas will show the device at electronica from 10 to 13 November, in Hall B4, stand 302. Its stated applications include lighting, HVAC and occupancy-aware connected products. [1]
