Raspberry Pi raises 16GB Pi 5 price by $80 as DRAM supply tightens

The increase takes the 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 to $385, while 16GB Compute Module 5 variants rise by $40. Raspberry Pi 500+ keeps its existing price.

Raspberry Pi has increased the price of its 16GB Pi 5 by $80 to $385 and raised prices for 16GB Compute Module 5 variants by $40, citing a shortage of alternative sources for high-density DRAM. The changes took effect on 2 November. [1]

The increases apply to selected products, with the company holding the price of the 500+, its keyboard-integrated desktop, despite that product also containing 16GB of memory. Eben Upton said Raspberry Pi has been qualifying alternative components to give it more sourcing flexibility, but a “lack of alternative supply for 16GB DRAM” and other component shortages have forced further increases. The announcement gives no date for reversing them. [1]

Compute Module 5 puts the Raspberry Pi 5 platform into a 55 mm × 40 mm module for integration into a custom carrier board. The range includes 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB RAM options, with eMMC storage and wireless choices specified separately, so the $40 increase concerns the 16GB RAM configurations rather than every module. [2]

The module uses a quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4 GHz and provides PCIe, USB, Ethernet and MIPI interfaces. Raspberry Pi continues to list a production commitment lasting until at least January 2036. [2]
