OpenAI and Synopsys have signed a multiyear agreement to develop GPT-Synopsys, a specialised AI model intended to operate Synopsys’ electronic design automation tools.
Announced on 30 September, the partnership includes joint research, a shared revenue framework and plans to bring the model to customers worldwide. OpenAI will license Synopsys tools for the development programme.
The companies describe a model trained to use EDA software, interpret its outputs and iterate designs. Target activities include exploring design alternatives and optimising power, performance and area.
Synopsys says the offering is intended to work with customer agent environments and its Synopsys.ai Autopilot capabilities. Early customer technology engagements are under way.
The companies also set out plans for enterprise controls, including encryption, access permissions and auditability. They say customer design data will not be used to train the model.
The announcement describes a development partnership and intended capabilities. It does not establish general availability, publish pricing or provide independent benchmarks demonstrating the model’s performance across production chip-design flows.
