Sungrow has integrated onsemi's latest EliteSiC silicon carbide hybrid power module technology into its PowerTitan 3.0 energy storage platform, targeting utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) used for grid power conversion.

onsemi says the new architecture improves inverter-level efficiency by 0.4% compared with the previous-generation platform, supporting power conversion units rated up to 450 kW. The company describes the design as a hybrid Si/SiC power integrated module (PIM) optimised for advanced three-level inverter architectures in high-power energy storage applications.

Claimed performance figures

  • Peak efficiency exceeding 99.3%, according to onsemi
  • Power conversion units rated up to 450 kW
  • Inverter-level efficiency improvement of 0.4% versus the prior-generation module
  • onsemi estimates the 0.4% gain could save more than 475 MWh annually in a 100 MW BESS installation compared with the previous module

onsemi attributes additional system-level benefits to the hybrid SiC design, including increased power density for higher-power deployments and enhanced thermal performance for reliable operation at high power. These are presented as onsemi's own claims rather than independently verified results.

Chen Peng, General Manager of Energy Storage Conversion Product Line at Sungrow Energy Storage Business Unit, said PowerTitan 3.0 reflects continued innovation in storage system design, and that Sungrow estimates delivering 10 GWh of PowerTitan 3.0 across Europe in 2026. Sergio Fissore, Vice President and General Manager of onsemi's IPD Power Division, said small efficiency improvements can meaningfully affect BESS performance and total cost of ownership at utility scale.

onsemi describes the integration as the outcome of a long-standing collaboration with Sungrow, involving joint platform definition, system optimisation and qualification work. The announcement does not specify a shipping date or production volume for the PowerTitan 3.0 platform itself, beyond Sungrow's stated 2026 European delivery estimate.
