OMNIVISION launches 12MP global-shutter sensor for industrial cameras

OMNIVISION has announced the OG12S10, a 12-megapixel backside-illuminated global-shutter CMOS image sensor for factory automation and intelligent transportation systems.
Announced on 5 October, the device uses 3.45µm pixels and supports exposure times as short as 1µs. Its global shutter exposes the frame synchronously to avoid the motion distortion associated with sequential row exposure.
OMNIVISION specifies a 4096 × 3072 resolution in the announcement. The sensor combines its PureCel Plus-S stacked-die pixel architecture with Nyxel near-infrared technology and on-chip dual conversion gain HDR.
The maximum frame rate depends on the output mode. The product specification lists full-resolution operation at 75fps with 10-bit output and 50fps with 12-bit output. Dual conversion gain HDR operates at 37.5fps with 12-bit or 14-bit output.
OMNIVISION reports 74dB dynamic range in dual conversion gain HDR mode, alongside 20,000-electron full-well capacity and 2.8-electron read noise. It gives quantum efficiency figures of 60% at 850nm and 40% at 940nm.
The interfaces include 16-lane sub-LVDS at up to 1.1Gbps and four-lane MIPI. The product page lists a 276-pin ceramic land grid array package, 10-bit, 12-bit and 14-bit RAW output, and applications including 3D machine vision and industrial barcode scanning.
OMNIVISION plans to make the sensor available for sampling in November 2026, with mass production scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
