Carlyle has agreed to acquire Nidec Components from its parent, Nidec Corporation, as part of the Japanese group’s planned portfolio rationalisation.

The agreement was announced on 1 October. Completion remains subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. Carlyle did not disclose a purchase price or completion date.

Founded in 1967, Nidec Components manufactures industrial electronic components including pressure sensors, switches, torque sensors and encoders.

Carlyle said the acquisition would give the business greater independence over investment and resource allocation. It plans to work with management on international expansion, operational improvements and the company’s organisational structure.

The investor’s previous Japanese industrial and technology investments include Rigaku, TOTOKU, Iwasaki Electric and Kyoden.

The announcement does not set out changes to Nidec Components’ product range, manufacturing footprint or customer supply arrangements.
