Bourns has released the CRK2725 series of wide-terminal metal-strip current-sense resistors, adding a 5W-rated option to its low-ohmic current measurement range.

The series is supplied in a 2725 surface-mount package. Bourns lists resistance values from 0.2mΩ to 1mΩ, with ±1% and ±5% tolerance options and a temperature coefficient of resistance of ±100ppm/°C.

Current-sense resistors generate a small voltage proportional to the current passing through them. Their very low resistance limits power loss, while the resulting voltage can be measured by an amplifier, converter or monitoring IC.

The CRK2725 uses a wide-terminal construction, placing the contacts along the longer edges of the package. This arrangement can reduce the electrical and thermal path between the resistive element and the PCB compared with a conventional terminal layout.

Bourns rates the parts at up to 5W, although the usable power depends on PCB layout, copper area, ambient temperature and the derating conditions stated in the datasheet. The company positions the series for battery-management systems, power supplies, motor drives, industrial controls and automotive electronics.

The parts are RoHS compliant and halogen free. Bourns lists the CRK2725 in its current-sense resistor portfolio, with product data and ordering information available through its website.
