Pickering’s modular LXI matrix expands from 64 × 8 to 384 × 8

Pickering Interfaces’ 65-217 switching matrix can be expanded in 64 × 8 increments, using front-loaded modules in the company’s 65-200 LXI chassis.
The Ethernet-controlled platform accommodates up to six modules, forming a single matrix of up to 384 × 8 in a 19-inch, 2U enclosure. Modules can be added or replaced from the front of the rack.
Each plug-in supplies a single-pole 64 × 8 matrix. Versions are available with or without direct front-panel access to the Y axis. Models with Y-axis access include switched loop-through connections for expansion between chassis.
Two analogue buses allow the matrix to be divided into independent sections. Unused sections can also be disconnected from the active bus, reducing the connected stubs that affect bandwidth.
The manufacturer’s technical documentation distinguishes conventional terminated crosstalk measurements from measurements made with unterminated paths. Pickering says the 65-217 was designed to improve crosstalk performance in the latter configuration.
The platform includes relay-cycle counting, built-in relay self-test and support for Pickering’s external eBIRST diagnostic tools. Operation counts are stored on the module, providing a record of contact use. Pickering also describes spare relays mounted on the plug-ins to assist servicing.
The specified limits include 2 A, 300 V DC or 250 V AC, with maximum switched power of 60 W or 62.5 VA. These are separate constraints: the maximum voltage and current cannot simply be combined into a higher power rating.
The 65-217 carries a three-year warranty. Its technical datasheet is dated July 2026; the broader product announcement appeared in late September.
