Keysight has introduced a dual-channel analogue signal generator that combines two independent 20 GHz sources in a single 2U instrument.

Announced on 29 September, the PSG XG7-class generator is aimed at aerospace, defence, wireless and high-speed digital testing. Keysight specifies calibrated output power of up to +22 dBm, alongside a hybrid architecture that switches operating modes in software.

The company quotes phase noise of −135 dBc/Hz and amplitude-modulation noise of −150 dBc/Hz, both at a 10 GHz carrier and a 10 kHz offset. It also gives a broadband noise floor of −166 dBc/Hz at 10 GHz. Those measurement conditions matter: the figures should not be read as uniform performance across the instrument’s frequency range.

Two channels share the chassis while retaining independent operation. The higher output level can help accommodate attenuation through cables and fixtures before a signal reaches the device under test.

Keysight says SCPI command compatibility, rear-panel connections and settings aligned with earlier instruments are intended to support the reuse of existing automation and test procedures. The announcement does not claim that every existing test configuration can be transferred without changes.
