Bluemag Pi pairs dual-core RISC-V control with onboard AI

Upbeat Technology's flight-controller module separates time-sensitive control from communications and navigation using two RISC-V processor cores.

Upbeat Technology has launched Bluemag Pi, an unmanned-vehicle flight-controller module based on the company's UP301 RISC-V system-on-chip.

The UP301 combines SiFive E3 and E2 processor cores. Upbeat says the multicore architecture allows time-sensitive flight-control work to be separated from communications, navigation and wider system-management functions.

The controller is aimed at long-endurance fixed-wing aircraft, commercial multirotors and unmanned surface vessels. Hardware resources identified by the company include RAM, non-volatile storage, floating-point support, timers, direct-memory-access functions and interrupt controllers.

Bluemag Pi runs the NuttX real-time operating system. Upbeat also lists compatibility with the PX4, ArduPilot and Betaflight flight-control ecosystems, allowing existing software projects to be adapted to the module.

The company is promoting onboard AI as a way to process sensor information locally and support functions such as navigation and autonomous decision-making without depending continuously on an external computer or cloud connection.

Upbeat has not presented Bluemag Pi as a certified flight-control system. Its announcement does not include independent reliability testing, environmental qualification or functional-safety certification.

The module was announced on 7 October 2026.
