TDK extends X series varistors for industrial protection circuits

TDK has expanded its multilayer chip varistor range with the X series for industrial power supplies, factory automation, industrial IoT equipment and sensor interfaces.
The surface-mount parts span EIA0402 to EIA2220 packages. Across the range, RMS voltage ratings run from 3.5V to 40V, with clamping voltages from 24V to 450V. Peak current handling ranges from 1A in the smallest footprint to 800A, depending on the device.
TDK specifies protection against air-discharge ESD up to 15kV under IEC 61000-4-2. Capacitance values start at 6pF, while the operating temperature range extends from −55°C to +125°C without temperature derating up to the upper limit.
The company says a revised ceramic composition allows lower-temperature sintering than conventional multilayer varistors. The industrial X range follows its automotive X1 series, which uses the same technology platform.
