AmpliTech says its MPRU radio has achieved interoperability with OCUDU, an open source software project covering centralised and distributed units in a 5G base station.

The test connects the radio hardware to a separate implementation of the base station software. In a disaggregated radio access network, timing and configuration have to remain consistent across that boundary for the components to operate together, even when both support the same interface specification.

AmpliTech linked the result to commercial and defence communications opportunities. It has reported an integration milestone rather than a customer deployment.

The company has separately described work on a 64T64R radio with Northeastern University, NVIDIA and OpenAirInterface. The MPRU and OCUDU result adds another hardware and software combination to that development programme; it is not a further test of the earlier 64T64R configuration.
